Frequently Asked Questions
Here you can find most answers your LHT questions. If your question is not listed here please email tourney@lordhubbard.info
Q: What does LHT stand for?
A: Lord Hubbard's Tournament.
LHT 1 was our first tournament, LHT 5 will be played on Aug 11th,
2007.
Q: Who is Lord Hubbard?
A: The birthplace of the tournament was on Hubbard Avenue in
Salt Lake City, Utah. Lord Hubbard's Cup is a lesser version
of Lord Stanley's Cup. For the complete history
Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A: Time and determination. But no money - it's free for
everyone!
Q: Who is eligible and invited to play?
A: Males and females; old and young; die hard hockey fans, brand new
hockey fans, and not yet hockey fans; Canadians, Americans, Indians,
English, Dutch (all of which have been represented so far) and any
other nationality; parents, children, uncles, aunts and cousins.
In fact the only conceivable category of people that are NOT welcome
are red wing's fans.
Q: Should I bring anything?
A: You may bring drinks, cookies, brownies, chips, dip or whatever
else your heart desires. You certainly don't need to bring
anything, but if you don't mind... then please do.
Q: What can I win?
A: There are prizes enough for everyone, but the most coveted award
is Lord Hubbard's Cup. To drink from the Champion's Trophy is
the highest honour that can possibly be achieved by an LHT
competitor - except of course to drink from it twice.
Q: Are there strategies, or is it just a
free-for-all of madness?
A: For some (Anne) the free-for-all of madness is a very effective
strategy. For others a more catatonic style (John Brumbaugh)
seems to work best. Some previous champions are very
calculated (Ryan) and others just take a billion shots (Alan). Some
try to score more goals with their defensemen (all the Musters whose
names start with "J"). You can check out our
skills section to learn some of
our plays, but in the end it's just up to you which style works
best.
Q: What is the format of the tournament?
A: Competitors will be ranked before the tournament.
According to rankings a double elimination bracket will be set up.
Lose twice and you're done. Don't lose twice and you win it
all!
Q: How long will it take?
A: It depends on how many people participate. Generally, if we
have about 20 people participating in both doubles and singles, we
will finish by 6:30pm
Q: I would like to play doubles but I
don't have a partner.
A: Please state your request in the form of a question.
Q: What should I do if I would like to
play doubles but I don't have a partner?
A: That's better. You won't be the only one at the tournament
without a partner so we will match you with someone when you get
there. When you register
just make a note that you don't have a partner yet, but that you
would like to play doubles.
